From the moment I got my Kindle I knew I wanted to read more on it than just books from Amazon. I wanted to:
- read newspapers, magazines and blogs
- read research papers and case studies I’d downloaded
- have copies of important documents when I travelled
And I wanted to be able to do all of that easily from my Mac, without tedious manual steps. I didn’t want to head out and find out I’d forgotten to load my reading.
That meant I needed a way to:
- automatically convert multiple file formats to eBooks for easy reading. (No more pale fonts and illegible text when you try to read a PDF or Word document.)
- click a single button on my Mac to save interesting webpages to read later on my Kindle. (I wanted to be sure they’d be there when I wanted to read them, even when I was offline.)
I found a way to do all that. And then I found a way to choose from over 400 international newspapers, magazines and blogs to schedule for free automatic download.
Thanks to one automation I built for the Mac, I start every morning with my newspapers ready to read even though none of them is available through Amazon. And they’re free, too.
Because they’re in an ebook format, the newspapers, magazines, web pages and articles are easy to read on the device. And I don’t need to be online to read them.

Seven ways to automate your Mac to make more time for reading
Creating a read later option on your Mac so that webpages you don’t have time to read now will be saved, compiled and sent automatically. They’re on the Kindle ready for you. Converting PDFs to ebooks so they’re easy to read — formatted as eBooks, so no weird scrolling and difficult, pale fonts. Emailing documents automatically no unnecessary messing about: just drag and drop documents you want emailed automatically to the device. Email documents from particular folders — select the documents you want on your Kindle, click and they’re on their way! Move documents as soon as you plug in the USB cable — all you have to do now is plug for immediate transfer. Converting Word documents to ebooks for easy reading with a few keystrokes. Scheduling the automated download of over 400 newspapers, magazines and blogs for free. Choose your favourite publications for free and get them sent automatically.
I read the book after my boyfriend gave me a Kindle. I’m a new Mac user, too, so I was interested in seeing how the two could work together. Your book was detailed, easy-to-read and above all useful. I now have all my work-related PDFs where I really need them! Love it. — Alison K., Financial Services
No more fiddling
I wrote Kindle Automation for the Mac because I was moving so much content from my Mac to the device that I got tired of having to do it all manually (and sometimes forgetting whether I’d moved what I needed).
One of my favourite time-savers is the email-to-Kindle automation. All I do is save a document to a particular folder and off it goes to the Kindle. I don’t have to open my email software, address a message, hit send. Once I set up the automation once, I never had to think about it again.
It sounds like a small thing but getting rid of those hassles means I know everything I need to read is on my Kindle.
This book has opened up a whole new application for my Kindle that I didn’t realise was possible — sending webpages and blogposts simply and for free. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make the most of his or her Kindle. — Katy S.
Every automation in the book is 100% something I wrote for myself because I found it useful. I want you to get as much value from the automations as I do so I’ve made it as easy for you as possible.
I have pre-built every single automation in the book and I’m including them here as a free bonus.
In less than 30 minutes you could be reading your favourite newspaper or magazine for free.
It’s brilliant to know every morning that all my newspapers are loaded and ready for me to read on the bus. I love that I just set it up once and now it does it all for me. — Michael A, New York
